Gottwald MDC 3500 (Grandma) is dead.
Perhaps (Gabriele or somebody else) can translate this.
The crane started it's life at IMO Merseburg as a Gottwald AK 270-98 (250 ton crane). In a road accident the crane was total-loss and IMO bought a new crane from Gottwald, the AK 350-83, but with the mast of the AK 270.
Van Seumeren bought the crane from IMO and brought it to The Netherlands. Here they upgraded the crane with a maxilift, stronger boom and central outriggers. After the upgrade the crane was called, Van Seumeren MDC 3500, with the MDC stands for Mobile Derrick Crane, 3500 stands for the capacity (Tonmeter).
Fitted with the backmast, strong boom and jip (jip was made from the original AK 270 boom) the crane could lift MORE then the PC/CC 4200 at large radius! At +/- 100 meters the PC/CC could lift 10 tons to a height while the MDC could lift 23 tonnes to a height of over 100 meters!
After years of service at Van Seumeren the crane moved to Sarens Italia. Here it build some container cranes.
From Italia it moved to Mexico, to Sarens-Sodeja. Since some years the crane was for sale at Sarens and a couple of weeks ago they found someone who bought the crane, some construction company.
During it's trip(800km) in Mexico it fell 300 meters of a mountain into a river resulting in the death of the driver and the death of unique crane.
